Yeppoon’s Kemp Beach Hidden Secret
January 20, 2008
This guest post is written by Jylan Wynne, a 14 year old. He runs a blog for Yeppoon, in addition to designing websites for local businesses.
Recently my family and I went to Kemp Beach with the intent of exploring the creek that can be seen from the walking track around the mountain. I’m glad that we did, because it sure is a really beautiful, well kept secret.
To get to Kemp Beach, head to the South from Yeppoon, using the scenic highway. On the way you will pass Cooee Bay, Lammermoor Beach and Rosslyn Bay. Kemp Beach is easy to find as it is the next headland after Rosslyn Bay.
Approaching the headland you will pass a large area of (recently) fenced in grass that borders the beach. Eventually a turn-off will come into view on the left, and at the end is the main Kemp Beach car park and picnic area.
To find the creek, start walking on the track closest to the beach, and a little way up there will be a set of stairs going down to the creek. To explore further, just turn off and start walking up there!
As we ventured further up we found pools of water, a few small waterfalls, some sandpaper figs interesting moss and creepers.
Beware of snakes, because when we started walking up the creek I saw a little snake with a yellow underbelly and black topside. Just remember to be careful where you place you feet, and wear proper shoes.
Below are some photos that I took of the creek and the view as we progressed further up.

Yes Mike, Jylan is a great wiz with his camera. Photography is one of his passions it seems and he is very good at it too.
Thank you Jylan for this great post. I too love your pics. Very nice indeed, keep up the great work you do.
[…] Just a note to everyone that I have already written a guest post about the creek at Kemp Beach over at Yeppoon Chronicle. If you want to know how to get to the creek, or see more photos, just head over to my post there. […]
