Australia Day Impressions
January 26, 2008
Happy Australia day to all Aussies and I hope you all had a great day. The weather was certainly fitting for a fantastic day out at the beach. This afternoon I grabbed my trusted scooter and rode down to the beach were all the action was happening. The place was jam packed with thousands of people mingling happily all over the place.
On the beach front local band Busby Marou from Rockhampton was belting out their unique Acoustic / Roots Music / Bluegrass music. I was instantly hooked by their melodious tunes that also contained a hint of rock. Awesome guys! I reckon they will be signed to a record label before we know it, because they certainly have the “it”.
Many onlookers got into the swing of things and many sported the famous Aussie garb in the form of wearing a flag, t-shirts or shorts. It reminded me of the times not so long ago when I received my Australian citizen ship on Australia day. The memory always makes me kind of mushy.
Many revelers will probably come home tonight only to find themselves painfully sunburned as it was a stinking hot day. There was plenty of entertainment for all ages.
All in all we couldn’t have asked for a better day to celebrate our roots and being a nation of many. The stalls were packed and so were the shops. We won’t mention the local waterhole either as this is always a popular spot to meet and have a coldie (beer) or two.
Australians certainly know how to celebrate in style with lots of fun and laughter. All in all it was a great day and my scooter happily guided me home again after sampling those impressions.
PS: I left the beer for home
Let us know if you have some memories to share about Australia Day.

Sounds like a fun time. Was that Blue Beaver Beer for later?
What is the reason to celebrate? Is it independence from the English crown?
Hi Mike,
Australia Day marks the anniversary of Captain Arthur Phillip unfurling the British flag at Sydney Cove. At the same time he proclaimed British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of Australia. That was on 26 January 1788.
On Australia Day, we celebrate what’s great about Australia. We celebrate our nation and our achievements and re-commit to making Australia an even better place to be for the future.
Tim, I never heard of Blue Beaver Beer until I Googled it just then. LOL
No, I stick with our Aussie brews like XXXX Gold and when I want to be really lavish I go for Corona.
Oh, this looks like good fun. I really need to get to Australia one of these days. It’s always been on my lists of places I want to visit. I had hoped to possibly get stationed there one day … we have solar observatory at a place called Learmonth, way up in the NW corner of the country. Unfortunately, with just a couple more years left in the US Air Force, it’s very unlikely I’ll ever get to live there. Even still, a visit would have to do.
Todd
Hey Todd,
You could always come for a holiday when you are out of the Air Force.
I’m pretty sure you won’t regret visiting this awesome country either. Plenty to do and see.
After climbing icebergs today to get some winter photos for my local niche blog this looks like heaven! Warm weather and sunny beaches are what is sorely need about now. Thanks for bringing in some sunshine on a cold winters day.
