Virgin Airlines Merry - Go - Round

February 14, 2008

virgin airlines

On a recent flight from Brisbane to Rockhampton a Virgin aircraft had to take 3 attempts to be able to finally touch down. A female passenger reported that she left her home in Brisbane at 7 AM on Thursday 13.Feb 2008 and didn’t get to Yeppoon until 4 PM that same day. A journey which normally only takes 50 minutes became an all day event.

Due to the excessive monsoonal rain that was flooding many roads in the area, the Virgin aircraft simply couldn’t land and had to do 2 return trips to Brisbane, each time trying to touch down in Rockhampton before unsuccessfully returning back to Brisbane again. Only on the 3rd attempt did they finally manage to land the aircraft in Rockhampton.

This is a true virgin-merry-go-round that eventually ended in a safe landing and shows how particular commercial aircraft pilots really are when it comes to the safety of their passengers.

The named passenger mentioned how they prepared themselves for the landing twice, only "to be pulled up at the last minute again".

Has Yeppoon Rydges Capricorn International Lost It?

January 16, 2008

Rydges Capricorn International resort is in the local gossip spotlight right now. Talk of the town is that the upcoming renewal of their lease with Japanese Corporation Iwasaki might be in jeopardy. The resort has enjoyed a long term lease of many years and with the renewal date looming supposedly in March this year, talk is that Iwasaki is not happy with the current management.

The thing is that this comes as no surprise to me since I have yet to find a local who actually enjoys working out there after living in Yeppoon for 8.5 years and having worked there myself when I first came to town.

Whether this is mere gossip or actually contains a smitten of truth, is to be confirmed. The fact that many locals complain about the overall state of the resort is however very true. Rydges has in the past faced some management issues and personally I have had no good experience whilst working for them. I felt betrayed, abused and used. Therefore it is no wonder that just about wherever we turn in Yeppoon we will find somebody who has worked there before. Just to state my own experience, when I was working out there there was at least one new chef starting every 3 weeks which meant a high turnover of staff.

The question is, why would staff want to leave a workplace if things were ok with them?

Things might have changed since then as I truly hope.

One thing is for sure, Rydges Capricorn resort Yeppoon needs a serious make over. It is a shame really since the location is absolutely beautiful and it could be a dream destination. Or maybe it already is, especially for locals on the weekend.

Imagine sitting by the lagoon on the huge pool listening to the rushing of the man-made waterfall and the twinkle of the ice in your cocktail glass with a nourishing book for the mind. - What else is there to do but enjoy life?

We’ll keep you posted once we find out more.
